Childhood Food Solutions is Lakeview’s Mission for the Month of April.

This small local program provides food for hungry children in a few neighborhoods in Cincinnati on weekends, holidays, and summer breaks, when school nutrition programs are typically not available.  Public school food programs only account for 180 days a year, leaving 185 days when many children miss meals and go to bed hungry. The program was started by Tony Fairhead in 2007 by focusing on a couple of schools in a single zip code, 45225.  The program has expanded over the years and now serves over 4,000 children in the Roll Hill, Millvale, Fairmount, and Price Hill communities, where the poverty rate is very high.  (Tony Fairhead has recently retired as Executive Director but remains on the Board of Directors.  The new Executive Director is Jen Kramer-Wine.)

The mission of the program:  To find solutions for children running out of food, with the hope that these solutions can be duplicated by other organizations.

Food sacks, light enough for a young child to carry and small enough to be “hidden” in a backpack, are distributed through 10 schools or, during summer break, at strategic neighborhood sites.  The sacks contain foods that require no refrigeration and limited preparation, have a long shelf-life, a high caloric value, and a “gummy” factor to prevent rapid ingestion, assuring the food supply will stretch as far as possible.  Enough food is provided in the sacks to allow the child to share with other members of the family, in many cases. The food sacks are filled with a standard list of foods, purchased from Aldi’s and Sam’s Club through donations and grants, with occasional supplementation of fresh fruit, when available.

CHANGE IN PLANS TO REOPEN LAKEVIEW

In the midst of the COVID 19 Pandemic, our goal here at Lakeview is to be caring and wise, as we serve and support all of God's children.  With that in mind, we have found it necessary to make some changes to our original plans. Please see below:

WORSHIP SERVICES

  • NO face to face services until further notice—We will continue to stream our Sunday morning services online. This will include having a bulletin and the announcements available on the Lakeview website. These services will also be recorded, archived and available on Facebook to watch at a later time.
  •  We will reassess the situation as circumstances change and will keep everyone up to date through email, bulletin announcements and announcements on the website and Facebook page.
  • We continue to work on the protocol for the time when we return to the Sanctuary and will make those guidelines available.

OTHER CHURCH ACTIVITIES

  • While we will continue to suspend all church organized activities, we encourage you to be in touch with members of the community via text, email, a phone call, a letter, a card, fireworks, sky-writing, or however you are inspired to reach out and connect with one another.

STAFF

  • The office staff will be working from home as much as possible, but will be monitoring voice mail, email, mail, etc.

As circumstances change, we will continue to assess the situation and make changes as needed.
If you have any questions or concerns please call us at the church office.

Sunday Worship
A Special Message

As we are sure you are aware, the country is in the midst of some serious health concerns. Our goal here at Lakeview is to be caring and wise, as we serve and support all of God's children. So, we will not be gathering at the church for worship on Sundays until further notice. Instead, we will be streaming the service on-line.

We will be streaming Facebook Live at 10 a.m. on Sundays and you can take part, EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT!

To be part of the service click HERE to go directly to Lakeview's Facebook page.  You can also access the service later if you can't join us live. Just click on the link, pick the service and watch whenever you can. The bulletin and the announcements are available on our website, so please join us online for prayers, praise and worship!
