Queen City Kitchen is our January Mission of the Month

The AIM Committee continues to support serving meals, lunch now instead of breakfast, at Queen City Kitchen in Walnut Hills. Lakeview Church supports this mission by being "Weekend Warriors," meaning serving meals on Saturday or Sunday. The kitchen serves hot meals three days a week, but supplying meals on weekends stretches the budget, so local groups like churches fill in the food gaps on weekends. It is rewarding work!
Lakeview has been supporting this effort for about 14 years. We shop for, prepare, and serve the food, and together with the staff, clean up.
Last year, they had to relocate the kitchen because the old location on Gilbert Avenue was demolished to build a veterans’ home. Walnut Hills Baptist Church graciously offered their kitchen and dining room facilities to QCK. It is working out well, meshing the church and kitchen schedules, and improving the kitchen facilities.
No one wants to rely on a soup kitchen for daily sustenance, but there are many in this changing neighborhood who just don’t have the means to get all they need. Many are just down on their luck. Many suffer from physical and mental conditions that may keep them from being self-sufficient. Grocery stores are not close, not in walking distance for some. Some are homeless. Some just lack the financial means, the psychological capacity or basic life skills to provide themselves with a meal. Many express their thanks; others give a blank stare and head to the dining room, but they eat with gusto.

If you would like to volunteer, the future dates are:
January 18 (We usually serve on the fourth Saturday, but not in January.)
March 22, May 24, July 26, September 27, & November 22
